[ACLU-announce] ACLU Santa Clara Valley -- Fall Activities

Here's whats happening in our area this fall:

1. The ACLU-SCV ANNUAL MEETING will be held at the Santa Clara City Central Park Library on Saturday, September 20th, from 2:30 - 4:30 pm.  Please join us!  A member reception will follow from 4:30 - 5:30 pm.  Come hear reports from chapter officers, a review of the positions ACLU-NC has taken on Props 4, 6, 8, 9 (all NO) and 5 (YES), and a keynote by attorney Danielle Jones on "Re-integrating ex-Offenders in Santa Clara Valley."  The meeting is free and open to all.

2. BOARD ELECTIONS will be held at our annual meeting.  If you are interested in joining the Santa Clara Valley ACLU Chapter Board for a two-year term, please e-mail Peter Yessne, Chair, at pyessne@gmail.com.  Due to resignations we have five openings on our 15-member board. Meetings are on the first Tuesday from 7-9 pm.

3. The PROP. 4 "VOTE NO" PHONE CAMPAIGN is underway. Join our coalition partner Planned Parenthood and make some calls to encourtage voters to Vote No on Proposition 4 (Parental Notification).  Starting September 4th Phone banks will be: Thursdays 6-9 pm and Sundays 12-8:30pm (Shifts - 12-2:30; 3-5:30; 6-8:30). 4. INTERNET FILTERING at 18 San Jose City Library locations is still being encouraged by Pete Constant of the San Jose City Council.  If you are a resident of San Jose and are available to speak out on this topic at a fall city council meeting, please leave your name and number on our voicemail line (408-327-9357) or email the SCV chapter at acluscv@hotmail.com to let us know of your availability and how to reach you. 
  
5. NOT YET A MEMBER OF THE ACLU?  Leave us an address by phone (408-327-9357) or email (acluscv@hotmail.com) and we'll send you a membership form.  You can join and become a "card-carrying member of the ACLU" for as little as $20 (or only $5 for students) -- and even better, if you use our chapter membership application, your local chapter will receive the entire first year of your membership dues to help fund our programs in Santa Clara Valley.  PLEASE DO IT TODAY!
